On 5 June 2025, the EMERGE project convened its second online General Assembly, gathering representatives from all partner institutions across Africa and Europe to review progress and align efforts for the next phase of implementation. The meeting, chaired by UNIZAG FSB, provided a comprehensive snapshot of developments in energy system modelling, stakeholder engagement, and data integration for sustainable energy transitions.

The meeting began with an overview of activities across all Work Packages (WPs), offering a comprehensive update on project milestones and collaboration outcomes. Key highlights included updates on dissemination and exploitation strategies (WP6), the development of a Common System Architecture and database (WP2), and progress on the EMERGE Toolbox for energy planning (WP3).

The assembly also delved into capacity building and policy steering efforts through the EMERGE Research & Innovation and Policy Laboratory (WP4), and the status of pilot demonstrations in Morocco, Mozambique, and the Niger River Basin in Mali (WP5).

The final session addressed project management and reporting (WP7), followed by discussions on next steps and preparations for the upcoming GA.

The session emphasized the importance of timely data delivery, continued stakeholder engagement, and collaborative efforts for policy and tool validation.

EMERGE continues to foster impactful cross-continental cooperation in clean energy planning. Through an evolving toolbox, policy support, and inclusive engagement processes, the project remains a leading platform for shaping Africa’s energy future.
