On 20 September 2024, the EMERGE project actively participated in the event “Synergies for Sustainable Energy Transition in Africa: Perspectives from Four Sister Projects,” hosted by ONEPlanET at Villa Lemons in Paris, France. This gathering brought together four innovative projects—ONEPlanET, EMERGE, RE-INTEGRATE, and EPIC Africa—to discuss and collaborate on sustainable energy solutions for the African continent.

Nikola Matak, EMERGE Project Coordinator, University of Zagreb represented the EMERGE project, sharing insights into advanced modeling techniques that are shaping Africa’s sustainable energy future. The event featured three panels:

1. Advanced Modeling Techniques: This panel delved into the sophisticated modeling approaches employed by the participating projects, highlighting their applications in energy system planning and policy development.
2. Practical Applications for Africa’s Energy Transition: Discussions focused on real-world implementations of sustainable energy solutions, emphasizing the importance of context-specific strategies tailored to African nations.
3. Challenges in Data Availability and Stakeholder Engagement: Panelists addressed obstacles such as limited data access and the need for effective stakeholder collaboration to ensure successful energy transition initiatives.

The event provided a platform for knowledge exchange and fostered partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable energy across Africa. Participants engaged in meaningful dialogues, exploring innovative approaches to overcome challenges and accelerate the continent’s energy transition.
