The EMERGE project, dedicated to advancing Africa’s energy systems, was prominently featured at the European Climate and Energy Modelling Forum (ECEMP) 2024. Representatives from the University Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) presented their insights during the session “Advancing Africa’s Energy System” on 17 October 2024. Their presentation, titled “The Potential of Off-Grid Systems in Enhancing Rural Electrification and Securing SDG7 in Mozambique,” highlighted the pivotal role of off-grid solutions in promoting rural electrification and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) in Mozambique.

The ECEMP 2024 conference, held on October 16-17, 2024, in Brussels and online, focused on “Energy Transition Scenarios for a Climate Neutral Europe.” The event showcased the latest policy-relevant findings from climate and energy models and served as a platform to discuss emerging research trends in collaborative modeling exercises.

The EMERGE project’s collaboration with sister initiatives OpenMod4Africa and RE-INTEGRATE underscores a collective commitment to sustainable energy solutions in Africa. By emphasizing off-grid systems, the project aims to address energy access challenges in rural Mozambique, contributing to broader climate neutrality goals.
