Advancing Energy System Modelling: EMERGE Hosts 2nd AU–EU Exchange in Zaragoza, Spain, 19–21 May 2025
May 29, 2025After the successful launch of the AU-EU Exchange in Paris earlier this year, the EMERGE Project continues to strengthen collaboration between African and European energy experts. The second EMERGE Exchange is taking place from 19–21 May 2025 in Zaragoza, Spain, hosted by the project partner CIRCE Institute, and focuses on hands-on training in power system modeling and renewable integration.
The event gathers representatives from African partner institutions and EU collaborators to deepen practical skills in advanced energy planning. Participants will engage in intensive sessions on GridCal, the Hosting Capacity Tool, Smart Grid concepts, the Optimal Storage Placement Tool, and gain insights into energy market operations in Europe.
In addition to the trainings, the agenda includes laboratory visits—such as the Hardware-in-the-Loop Lab at CIRCE—and a field trip to a local power plant or substation, offering participants real-world exposure to operational energy systems.
These exchanges aim to:
- Enhance technical expertise and capacity in African institutions
- Support data-driven energy system development
- Foster long-term AU-EU cooperation for a sustainable energy future
This initiative is part of EMERGE’s broader mission to develop tools and knowledge for green development across Africa. Stay tuned for more updates and insights from Zaragoza as the exchange unfolds.
