CEPIA

CEPIA is an excel based tool allowing for user friendly assessment of energy-climate trajectories for different scenarios through multiple economic, technical and environmental indicators. Aiming to support long-term planning in all activity sectors, it has been developed by Artelys.

This tool considers various economic sectors (e.g. energy, transport, industry, residential). It allows users to forecast the effect of multiple levers on these sectors, enabling to quantitively assess the different types of impacts and to define operational goals (e.g. decarbonization policies such as: increasing the penetration of renewables in power sector, increasing the share of electrical vehicles in transportation sector, switching to more electrical means of cooking / heating in residential sector, etc.).

The tool simulates different scenarios for aggregated balances, resulting in various outputs which are translated into high-level indicators (e.g. network supply and demand per energy production technology, associated CO2 emissions, imports and fossil fuel dependency, system costs, etc.). The parameters used in the modelling can represent concrete actions or objectives of policy makers: an energy-climate scenario will then be based on the definition of these structural parameters. In CEPIA, thanks to the bottom-up approach, the user can see the influence of one parameter (or lever) on the different available indicators.
