AI-Energy Hackathon in Oujda Kicks Off the EMERGE Hackathon Series
July 14, 2026The EMERGE project will present its final results, policy roadmaps and digital solutions at a hybrid event in Lisbon, Portugal, on Monday, 23 November 2026, hosted within the 7th ESEIA International Conference at LNEG’s Campus do Lumiar.
Titled Empowering Africa’s Green Future: Results, Policy Roadmaps and Digital Solutions from EMERGE Project, the session opens at 18:00 on the first day of the conference. It will run onsite in Lisbon and online, with more than 200 participants expected across both channels.
The event closes three years of work by a consortium of research institutions, technology developers and innovation hubs in Europe and Africa. Its purpose is to move the project’s outputs into the hands of the policymakers, investors, energy utilities and research organisations that can apply them once the funding period ends.
The programme opens with a welcome from the Project Coordinator, University of Zagreb, followed by the European Commission Project Officer on the role of Horizon Europe in accelerating EU and Africa energy cooperation.
The core of the session is a showcase of EMERGE’s Key Exploitable Results, organised in four blocks:
- The Knowledge Base, Common System Architecture and Database that underpin the project’s technical work
- The EMERGE Toolbox, including its scenario modelling capabilities and its integration of multi-sector and socio-economic data
- Results from the project’s three pilot sites
- Policy recommendations and the clean energy transition roadmap, presented together with AfriLabs
A further session covers impact assessment against project KPIs, the exploitation strategy and the potential for replication across African regions.
The event closes with a panel discussion, “How can energy system modelling accelerate Africa’s energy transition?”, bringing EMERGE together with its Horizon Europe sister projects. Panellists will address policy uptake, market deployment, investment relevance and cooperation between the European Union and the African Union.
Holding the Final Event inside the 7th ESEIA Conference places EMERGE results in front of an audience of scientists, industry professionals and policymakers already convened around Europe’s clean energy agenda.
The conference, Green Energy Solutions: Current and Future Trends, runs in Lisbon from 23 to 25 November 2026, hosted by LNEG. Its programme is aligned with the EU policy framework on the competitiveness of European clean energy and net-zero technologies, including the Clean Industrial Deal, the Net-Zero Industry Act, the SET Plan Implementation Framework and the Global Gateway Strategy, the last of which speaks directly to EMERGE’s model of cooperation with African partners.
